The Challenge
As Jones Skips grew, the systems that had worked for a smaller operation struggled to keep up.
Skip hire, trade waste, the weighbridge and accounts all ran on separate software, while drivers communicated with the office through WhatsApp. Finding information often meant contacting another department and waiting for an answer.
“The systems we had were old and clunky. They worked for us when we were smaller, but as we grew it got harder to get information and created more work for us across the business that wasn’t generating revenue.”
– Alisha Clayton, Service Manager, Jones Skips
Customer service regularly had to contact transport just to answer basic questions about jobs.
“We spent more time internally calling than picking up the phone to customers.”
With no live view of skip availability either, someone also had to physically count the skips in the yard each day.
Jones Skips needed to bring its operation together and make information easier to access across the business.
The Solution
Jones Skips moved to Waste Logics in phases, starting with trade waste before bringing skip hire onto the platform.
“Partnering with a trusted provider like Waste Logics gave us the confidence that consolidating a fragmented landscape of systems into a single platform would meaningfully reduce the challenges typically associated with a rollout of this scale.”
– Wayne Cornell, CEO, Jones Skips
With both divisions using Waste Logics, teams now work from the same information rather than separate systems.
The Driver App captures job statuses, photographs, signatures and weights as work happens, removing the need to wait for paperwork or manually rekey information.
“Everything now sits in one place. If I’ve got a query with a job, I’ve got everything I need to know about it. It’s a lot clearer and a lot more visible. That alone gives us a day back a week.”
– Alisha Clayton, Service Manager, Jones Skips
Customer service can see driver progress without repeatedly contacting transport, while Connect SMS automatically lets customers know when their driver is on the way.
Accounts has also reduced the time spent manually raising invoices.
“Previously everything was manually done. We’d spend hours a day raising invoices for one customer alone, but now it’s a couple of clicks of a button.”
The Results
Bringing its operation onto Waste Logics has helped Jones Skips remove significant amounts of manual work.
“Moving to a new system can feel like a daunting task for any waste business, but the process was smooth and we’re saving so much time each week on the trade waste side that moving the skips over was a no brainer.”
The Driver App alone saves around eight hours of administration every week, including time previously spent chasing tickets, dealing with missing paperwork and waiting to invoice.
Connected workflows have also removed around five hours of rekeying every week.
Teams have better visibility of jobs, drivers and operational information, while managers have easier access to reporting across waste streams, pricing and financial performance.
The change has also helped previously separate teams work more closely together.
“People’s knowledge has built a lot more, and they’re far more willing to learn about other parts of the business, because it’s all on the one system.”
Looking Ahead
For Jones Skips, bringing its systems together has created a stronger foundation for continued growth without adding the same levels of administration and complexity.
“Waste Logics has given us significantly better visibility across the business, easier reporting facilities and everything in one place. It saves us days every week that we can dedicate elsewhere and allows us to keep scaling as a business. We’re so glad we made the move and I’ll happily advocate that to anybody.”
