How Norris Skips built a connected, data-driven waste business

Norris Skips runs a complex mix of skip hire, trade waste and brokerage services. Keeping those divisions connected and profitable requires visibility across every job, vehicle and customer. Director, Kieron Norris explains how moving to Waste Logics has helped them join the dots, eliminate manual reporting and make faster, data-driven decisions.

At a glance: Norris Skips replaced manual reporting across three divisions with a single operational view, reduced time spent on reporting by around ten hours per week, improved route efficiency, and gained real-time visibility across fleet, yard and finance operations.

Q: What challenges drove you to look for a new waste management system?

Kieron Norris: We were running three divisions on different software, which made credit control and reporting a real challenge. There was no single version of the truth, we spent too much time managing spreadsheets just to see how the business was performing. I was spending around ten hours a week just pulling data together manually, and that time could have been spent actually using the data to make improvements.

Q: Has Waste Logics helped solve those challenges?

Kieron Norris: Absolutely. We needed one platform that could run everything, from skips and trade waste to brokerage, and Waste Logics has done that. Most systems struggled to connect those parts of the business, but now everything flows through one place. It is faster, more accurate, and gives us complete visibility across operations.

Q: How did the move to the new system go?

Kieron Norris: Surprisingly fast. We went live in about four weeks, which was impressive given the size of our operation. Drivers adapted to the Driver app straight away, and the weighbridge and yard teams found it much easier to use.

Q: What has changed day to day?

Kieron Norris: Every morning at 7 a.m., our BI dashboard updates automatically. It gives us a complete view of sales, fleet performance, yard output and disposal costs. I used to spend around ten hours a week putting those reports together. Now everyone sees the same information at the start of the day and we can act on it immediately.

Q: How has credit control been impacted?

Kieron Norris: We are much more proactive now. Customers trading across different parts of the business have a single balance and credit limit, so we can manage accounts accurately in real time. It has made the finance side far more controlled and transparent.

Q: Are your customers getting a better service from you?

Kieron Norris: Definitely. Proactive SMS updates and the online portal have reduced calls and made it easier for customers to get the information they need. It is simple things like that which make a real difference.

Q: Are you getting more out of your fleet?

Kieron Norris: Yes, definitely. Transport can now see job locations on a live map, so seeing opportunities to optimise routes or fill gaps is easy. It has improved route efficiency and reduced costs across the fleet.

Q: Has your brokerage team seen an impact since moving to Waste Logics?

Kieron Norris: Yes, absolutely. Managing brokerage used to involve many manual steps, but the process is now much faster and more transparent. The team can see where subcontractors are on the map, send purchase orders instantly, and handle complex pricing structures like rentals all in one place. They can also track where each job is up to and compare cost versus purchase in real time. It has reduced admin time and errors, which means the brokerage side of the business, can scale more efficiently and profitably.

Q: And for your larger clients?

Kieron Norris: The SmartWaste integration has been a real benefit. It pushes our recycling and compliance data straight into contractors’ systems, saving a lot of manual work and helping them hit their sustainability targets. For us, it has become a strong selling point.

Q: Any measurable impact on performance?

Kieron Norris: Profitability is up significantly. The visibility and control we now have helped us fine-tune how we use our own fleet alongside our brokerage work. The data gives us the clarity to make smarter decisions every day.

Q: How would you describe the relationship with your software provider?

Kieron Norris: It is collaborative. If we have ideas or feedback, the team listens and works with us to find the right solution. It feels like a genuine partnership focused on helping both sides move forward.
