Onboarding Specialist Holly Barker Supports The Sickle Cell Society’s Rise Up Event

At Waste Logics, supporting voluntary projects is an inherent part of our culture. Our employees are very generous with their time and we enjoy celebrating their individual efforts and achievements.

We recently shared the stories of Holly Barker and Dzmitry Sankouski in our Blog and Holly has been at it again, this time volunteering at an event called Rise Up For Sickle Cell! We spoke to her about her experience and why she chose to undertake another volunteer project.

Q: Tell me a bit about your role at Waste Logics.

A: I’m part of the Onboarding Team! We have the privilege of welcoming our new clients to Waste Logics. We’re here to support them as they set up their system and learn how to use it to their advantage. It’s really rewarding because I get to witness first hand how much of an impact our software can make on a business, even from day 1.

Q: Who did you volunteer for this time?

A: I volunteered at an event called Rise Up For Sickle Cell which was hosted by the Sickle Cell Society. It was an incredible event and was held at the Home House private members’ club in July. Billed as a ‘luxurious evening of music, art and fashion’, it was so much fun to be a part of.

Q: Why did you choose this particular charity?

A: I think it’s a really important cause and the Sickle Cell Society is the only national charity dedicated to sickle cell disease so it was a great opportunity to raise money and awareness for them and the people they support.

Q: What did you enjoy most about the event?

A: It was a lovely opportunity to meet new people while contributing to a worthy cause. The dress code was ‘Black Tie Slipped’ so as you can imagine it was very glamorous but relaxed and everyone who took part really enjoyed themselves. Best of all, we raised loads of money!

Q: What would you say to anyone who is considering volunteering?

A: I’d tell them to get stuck in! Joining in with something new can be intimidating to begin with but it’s always worth it and you make some great friends and come away from it feeling like you have helped to make a difference to someone’s life.
